What it solves

Looking at a website while you work usually means leaving the desktop and losing what you had open. The Browser opens the web inside your desktop, with tabs, and shows you what your organization’s policy lets you open. It is free in all three editions.

Who it is for

For anyone who works on the Projekt Republic desktop and wants a website at hand without switching applications, and for whoever administers an organization and needs to decide which sites can be opened. It is a desktop app: it opens in the Projekt Republic desktop app, because opening real websites, with their tabs, needs more memory and processor than a web tab can give.

What you can do

Type in the bar an address or whatever you want to search: an address opens as is and text is searched on Google. The padlock in the bar says whether the page is encrypted (https), and back, forward and reload sit next to it.

Work with tabs: open with the “+”, close with the “×”, drag a tab to move it and reopen the last one you closed with “Reopen tab”. If a page comes out blank, “Remember that it comes out blank” makes you see its preview next time instead of the empty frame, and “Open in real tab” opens it in your browser.

Decide what can be opened, as owner or admin: the mode and the blocked and allowed lists for the public web are in the Browser’s gear, and the organization’s intranets are declared in Settings → Your organizations → Intranets.

What to keep in mind

Many sites do not let themselves be opened inside another page: most of them, which is why the preview and the button to open in a real tab exist. The policy belongs to the organization and only owners and admins set it; rules by role, team, project or person, and letting Kern read an intranet, come from Team.
